In 1973, the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Canary Islands welcomed the first international exhibition of sculpture in the street. 27 of the works that were installed on that occasion remained later in the streets and squares of the city. These are sculptures from internationally renowned artists such as Henry Moore or Martin Chirino of incalculable artistic value. They were made in many different materials like Stone, concrete, bronze, iron, plastic... and are one of the main attractives of the main city avenue and its adyacent squares and parks. My proposal is to scan all of them to become part of the heritage preserved by MyMiniFctory forever. And It would constitute a great collection to print! The variety of materials, surfaces and the size constitutes a challenge for proper scanning but with the correct tools I'm sure it could be succesfully done.

For my scan I would like to recommend my college's mascot. The picture attached is our Bulldog statue "Champ", during finals week, before a big game or an important event students come visit the statue and "pet" the statue indicated by the wear on Champs head. Legend has it in Fall of 1899 five tech students, on their way home from class came across a lone bulldog sitting under a tree. The young men then decided to take the dog in after convincing their landlord to allow them to keep the dog. That night a fire broke out in the students house and the bulldog became alarmed going from room to room waking the students up to escape the fire. The students all escaped but the fire was too great for the dog and sadly he passed on. Coming back to the remains of their house the next day the students found the bulldog and made plans to bury him. wrapping him in their jackets, one red and one blue, he is buried under the Louisiana Tech Campus Seal. A year after the death of the bulldog Tech begun to start their own football team, in search of a mascot the students voted unanimously for the stray bulldog to become the mascot. The colors were then decided to be red and blue to honor the red and blue jackets the hero bulldog. I believe this would be a great image to scan dude to its rich history within my college and the importance it plays in each students life.

For the Scan the World Competition I would like to submit the Greek Theatre found in The Guild Park and Gardens in Toronto, Canada. Toronto is a city proud of its culture, diversity, and appreciation for the arts. This is best represented hidden deep in Scarborough, the east-most of the 6 boroughs of Toronto, where there is a sanctuary for relics of the past, and where artists have been celebrated and their creativity encouraged. My home neighborhood of Guildwood is a quiet lakeside haven perched along the bluffs of Lake Ontario, seemingly shielded from the urban setting of the Greater Toronto Area. The residents are a tightly woven community of people from all walks of life yet connected through a unifying appreciation for the neighborhood we share. Within the woods of the area there is the pride of Guildwood: The Guild Park and Gardens. Also known as The Guild, and formerly The Guild of All Arts, The Guild Park and Gardens was an artists colony and inn founded in 1932 by Rosa Hewetson and Spencer Clark on their 50 acre property in Scarborough. Inspired by a similar operation in New York, Hewetson and Clark built workshops and facilities for creatives to use on their grounds. Artists could come and stay at the inn to create, sharing their knowledge and their work with the public in exchange for room and board. The idea was to create a safe place to facilitate and encourage creativity and keep fine art alive in our rapidly changing world. The Guild also acted as several other things, such as a training facility for the Women’s Royal Naval Service and a recovery centre for shellshock victims after the second world war, but its most prolific role was that of relic sanctuary for art and architecture. In the 1950s Toronto went through a development boom. This resulted in the demolition of many buildings that had been standing for decades and had featured stonework elements of exceptional craftsmanship of which many considered historically significant. To preserve the heritage of Toronto, Hewetson and Clark acquired fragments of these buildings and placed them throughout the grounds of The Guild for all to admire for years to come. The pinnacle of this effort was the construction of the Guild’s Greek Theatre, made from stone pieces of the original Bank of Toronto Building, which became emblematic of The Guild and what it stood for. This theatre has become a “best kept secret” for savvy Toronto locals and was even briefly featured in the music video for “Headlines” by Drake (one of his numerous Scarborough references). The original artist colony is now defunct, but the grounds are cared for by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. These grounds, though unbeknownst to many, are open for the public to visit so they may appreciate the fragments of old Toronto and the sculptures from the creatives that once lived on the grounds. For the residents of Guildwood today, the Guild is the center of the community. For decades neighborhood events, performances, and gatherings have been held in The Guild at the Greek Theatre. The Guild also still hosts an annual arts festival for local creatives to perform or sell their work. Growing up in Guildwood, The Guild was the topic of ghost stories and tales of hidden treasure, a meeting place for friends, and a place to go to be with your thoughts in nature. Though it started as a place for creatives to thrive, Guildwood has become a snapshot of history and a home to many, finding a special place in the hearts of all its residents including my own. I believe the Guildwood community would be honoured if Scan the World included the Greek Theatre, and other artifacts if possible, in their collection. The mission of The Guild was to keep art, culture, and later the heritage of Toronto alive. Not through the lens of a museum, but through a direct connection between the viewer, the artists, and the pieces preserved on the grounds. In this regard The Guild and Scan the World are quite similar. Hewetson and Clark managed to save the physical artwork of their artists and the remnants of old Toronto within their grounds, though the passage of time could cause them to decay. I would assert that Hewetson, Clark, and the Guildwood community would advocate for the digitization of the collection, so that the pieces may be eternalized, and the goal of the guild would be achieved forever. The photos included were taken by myself days before my submission. The first several photos are of the Greek theatre, but I have also included some images of other artifacts on the grounds as well as a photo of Hewetson and Clark to add imagery to my description. Ornated Coat hanger modelled in zbrush and maya

A thousand years ago, a woman had a bridge built over a small stream. After many days of hard work, she could finally look upon her work completed. Curiously, the woman would never cross her bridge. Hundreds of years passed and the bridge would become lost to time. Next to its location, however, remained a stone which stands still today. It reads: "Gullaug had the bridge made for her daughter Gillaugar's soul, the wife of Ulf. Öpir carved". The construction of a physical bridge is thought to have played an important role in helping the souls of diseased loves ones cross into the afterlife. Though little is known for sure, it's believed these bridges were built solely for this purpose and not because the locals needed a bridge. This stone comes from a curious period in our history, when the lands of the vikings were Christianised. The notion of a soul or God, as well as the incorporation of crosses became more common among runestones. The Christian generations ahead would later tear down runestones as it was considered heresy - but any stone that had a cross on it was left standing. Although a thousand years have passed, the vikings remain an important part of our past and our heritage. While the large mounds of ancient viking kings will be the big go-to tourist destination, there's something very humble and human about a short message left to commemorate the final goodbye to a daughter.

This is the joined border stone from the "Drielandenpunt". The highest spot in the mainland Netherlands near Vaals, bordering Aachen in Germany and La Calamine (Kelmis) in Belgium. While it may not look sexy and there are 3 prettier border stones nearby for tourists, this is the spot where you can walk in a circle around the stone and go through 3 countries crossing borders in seconds. This has been a thing for as long as I can remember, as a child it was fun. Later in life when the European Union removed the actual borders and border checks I understood that the fun I had as a child became reality. Removing borders between people while respecting their cultures and opening up in general is one of the most important things I experienced as a young adult. In a way we always had it and you could go for walks in any country from that stone without hindrance. Yet borders, checks, different currencies (you had to have different currencies depending on where you got an ice lolly) are all gone now and since then life has been steadily improving as banking improved and roaming for mobile phones was removed. So while the experience changed for those that walk around it today, the story still matters and reducing borders between people is better for all involved. Fun facts: it used to be 4 countries whose's borders connected there at times and smuggling on foot used to be a thing. This place has a long deep history and many more stories for those that want to explore them.

Historical Reference: The Greek language and the Greek civilization dominated in the geographical region of modern Greece and in other regions nearby the Mediterranean Sea. In these geographical regions the sun shines during the most days of the year. Thus, the sundials were very useful instruments for the measurement of time. The sundials of Athens are considered as very important archaeological and scientific findings with a major contribution in the science of Astronomy. This sundial is located in a small garden just past the west entrance to the National Gardens, close to the Greek Parliament building and Syntagma Square. It was constructed in 1842 and initially placed at the Royal palace while in 1929 was moved (until today) at the National Garden in Athens. It is mounted on a marble base, with a handsome brass gnomon. The values are carved into the marble base. Hours are daily from sunrise to sunset. What is the personal meaning of this sundial. As a kid we used to have family walks at the National Garden. I was always fascinated by the sundial and the fact that in ancient years people calculated the time with the help of the sun. Now as an engineer and a teacher, I like to present to my students applications that make our life easier, are related with our history and combine science and imagination. What is the meaning for my community and my country? Why it would deserve to be digitalized and included in Scan The World repository? As a citizen of Athens (in Greece) there is a huge amount of art and cultural objects that deserve to be digitalized. Apart from my personal point of view (as already described) I choose this Sundial, because: a) is a easy to be digitalized (small to be 3d scanned), b) has a great historical meaning for our people (because sun was always source of life and tool for everyday life for the Greeks) and c) can be used as an educational project for the school community as it is easy to be edited (in a 3d design software) and constructed (with 3D printing or conventional construction methods) customized for any geographical latitudes.

Monument to the Defenders of Mława in Uniszki What is it? The monument to an infantryman rising to attack with a bayonet in his hand in Uniszki Zawadzkie, designed by Barbara and Andrzej Wachn, was unveiled in May 1985. The Battle of Mlawa took place north of Mlawa between September 1 and 3, 1939. It was one of the first battles of Poland's defensive war and during World War II in general. About 70 meters behind the monument are the ruins of a Polish battle shelter. Inside it, the Mausoleum of September Soldiers has been created. Explain what your object would mean for your heritage as an individual and as part of a larger community (your family, you town/city, your country). This statue is important to me because now with the war in Ukraine, I and the rest of the world are reminded what war is really like. There are no winners in the war, only death and destruction. Almost 3,200 soldiers died in the battle that this statue represents, of whom we know 864 by name, the rest are known only to God. To all of them I and the community to which I belong owe gratitude and great respect. The monument is a reminder that this great drama actually happened. It represents the immense scale of the devastation suffered by Mlawa during World War II and the indignities meted out by the aggressors to the residents. - Little is said about the drama of the civilian population. About the women who were raped and humiliated. Because war is about these dramas, it is not only about the soldier. We must remember this.

In the South West of England there lives a very strange animal… which you may see whilst travelling through the forests of Dorset. The Five Legged Stag! Cast in bronze, atop a brick arch on the Drax family estate, it stands proudly guarding it’s woodland realm. But why five legs? Is it a relation of Sleipnir, the eight legged horse of Odin? Many rumours abound. Perhaps the likeliest is this… one historic Lord of the Manor commissioned the statue many years ago. On completion it could be seen from his Lordship’s window, but by such angle it appeared to have only three legs. “Why does it only have three legs?!” was the question. “Add another one immediately!” The poor sculptor no doubt needed his pay, so added another leg, bringing the total to five. In truth the added limb is decorated to look like a tree branch, but from the ground (and from the Lord’s window) it looks like a perfectly formed stag’s leg. I think this strange monument should be saved for the history books and the tales (there are many more than the one I have heard) should be told. It’s a novel part of our local history which has tourists and motorists scratching their heads at the only stag in the land to have five legs!

Deep in Siberia, once a year, an "axe festival" takes place. Sculptors from all over the world compete to make wood sculptures. These are truly masterpieces. As a rule, they show people that art unites everyone, regardless of the place where you were born, where you live and what culture is close to you. However, wood is a short-lived material. These shalevers live their lives in the open air and after a few years they are destroyed in a natural way. All that remains of them are photos and memories. I would like to donate their digital copies to the entire world community so that everyone can comprehend these statues, understand the deep thoughts of the authors, preserve a part of this culture that will disappear without a trace in its natural form. I really hope with all my might that this will help achieve peace on earth and preserve these short-lived masterpieces for humanity. After all, each author puts into the bottom all the best that he has achieved and strives to share it with others. However, wood will not allow this wealth to be carried through the ages like the stone sculptures of the ancient world or the like. With your help, I hope to preserve this cultural heritage.

During the 80 years war between Spain and the Netherlands, the city of Haarlem was besieged by Spanish forces. Although Haarlem was well supplied, the siege lasted long, and every person, whether civilian or soldier, was expected to do their part. Many of Haarlems' communal tales and history can be traced back to this siege. It is, sometimes indirectly, a big part of the city’s identity. For instance people from Haarlem still call themself mosquitos, for the trouble they gave the Spanish in the swamps. In remembrance of the siege, and the heroic tales of its people this statue was placed in front of the train station. It represents Wigbolt Ripperda, the governor of Haarlem during the siege, and even more interesting on the topic of history and community: Kenau Simonsdochter Hasselaer. Kenau is a historical person who is famous for showing particular courage and strength during the siege. She was a shrewd business woman who owned a shipyard and was a key figure in the siege. Over the years many tales surrounding her have emerged in Haarlem which elevated her to a semi-mythical status. For example: she was supposedly the leader of a group of 300 female warriors, during the battles. The name Kenau is well known by the people of the city, nearly better known then the siege itself. Even the local brewery named one of their spirits after her. As a student of Ancient Studies, I knew immediately what statue to choose. I think this is a good candidate to create a richer historical record, since there isn’t a shortage of scans of Roman emperors. Furthermore, the combination of history and folk tales makes this interesting to the topic of authenticity to which Digital scanning lends itself.
